THE MAMA PARADE 2025
Our community came together in a beautiful and powerful way to celebrate the women who shape our lives. From caregivers and aunties to artists, entrepreneurs, and mamas of every kind, their presence was felt and honored throughout the day. It began with a parade down Lake Street where mothers and their families walked in recognition of their incredible achievements. Along the route were stations that reflected themes of motherhood. Stories were recorded through voice memos, illustrated into a collaborative collage, and displayed on the building’s glass for passersby to experience.
The event then shifted as participants were welcomed into the Coliseum Building for a vendor pop-up. This pop-up created opportunities for mothers to connect with local businesses—whether as consumers or potential collaborators and job seekers.
The day concluded with SHAKE opening its doors on the second floor of the Coliseum Building for an open house. Mothers and community members explored the space, envisioning how they or someone they know could use it for growth and creativity. This celebration also marked one year of SHAKE’s work as a haven for entrepreneurship and transformation in the community.
“Motherhood means to me dedication, and always putting others before yourself.”
“When I was in my 50s or 60s my step daughter decided to call me Mom and it was the greatest achievement of my life.”
“Motherhood to me is trying even when you’re tired. You know getting up and pushing through for your kids because they are going to see you and hopefully follow your footsteps and do even better than you. Entrepreneurship I think is about getting out there and selling a product that you feel fits you. I did my little T-shirt business, it didn't work out but I'm okay with that but I know that I have the courage to improve and get better the next time I try something.”
“Motherhood is hard work, but it is the best job in the world.”
“I think motherhood is loving and exemplifying what it means to care for people in a way that is selfless and believing the best in what your children can become. It's a sacrifice learning to put others needs and growth before your own and caring for them when it’s more important than yourself.”
